What is GameShield?

GameShield is a Digital Rights Management Toolkit, designed for video game developers, publishers and distributors . It includes the incredibly powerful IronWrap™ to give you the utmost security for software at the highest risk of piracy: PC games.

GameShield‘s DRM Kit protects your Intellectual Property from piracy and at the same time enforces a variety of license models (or business models). GameShield provides you with everything you need to protect and license a game in just a few minutes. You also get the power and flexibility of a feature-rich DRM to totally control and customize the user’s experience with your game. This includes functions in IronWrap that allow you to embed more than language, and customize HTML Reminders.

GameShield’s DRM can be used by developers to integrate right inside the game itself, or may be easily used by non-developers to IronWrap games quickly and easily without making a single change to the games’ compiled code.

What is IronWrap™?

IronWrap is a sophisticated protection mechanism GameShield uses to protect your games when you choose the IronWrapper option for them. IronWrapping essentially "wraps" a mini virtual operating system around your game (and optionally data) like a protective shield.

This virtual system may optionally contain a pre-defined license model, logic and customizable User Interface elements to allow the user to interact with the IronWrap system itself.

You may also choose a "Hybrid" approach to protecting your applications. In this approach, you use IronWrap, but also invoke GameShield’s ClientProtector right inside your application to offer the ultimate in high-strength protection combined with the supreme flexibility of a rich (virtual) COM interface right into the IronWrapping system itself.

What is Software License Enforcement?

License enforcement is the mechanism by which the GameShield components may enforce specific license terms between your organization (more specifically your game) and your customers (the end-users of the game).

GameShield’s software license enforcement system allows you to create, edit, compile, test, distribute, activate and support licensed software. For example, you wish to create a "trial" version of your game, where a customer can install and play the game for a limited time period, after which they must purchase the game from you or stop playing. Since DRM is not your development team’s primary focus, if you create your own “home-grown”solution to protect and enforce the game, you run the risk of creating a weak implementation.

Further it is likely that the same solution will not meet all the requirements of a different license or application, or the needs of all your distribution channels.

That’s why the GameShield software licensing system consists of several applications, tools, run-time components, server components and support systems to help you best realize your business goals. Using GameShield you can set up DRM the way you want, and still make it easy for your customers to purchase and play your game products.
