What is GameShield?

GameShield is an evolution of the SoftwareShield System DRM Kit (also known as Digital Rights Management Kit) designed with the video game developer and publisher in mind. GameShield includes the incredibly powerful IronWrap™ system to give you the utmost security for software at the highest risk of piracy: PC games.

GameShield is a DRM Kit for stakeholders who need to protect their property from piracy and at the same time enforce a variety of license models (or business models). The DRM Kit provides you with everything you need to protect and license a game in just a few minutes. You also get the power and flexibility of a feature-rich DRM Kit to totally control and customize the users experience with your game. The DRM Kit can be used by developers to integrate right inside the game itself, or may be easily used by non-developers to IronWrap games in just minutes.

What is IronWrap™?

IronWrapping is a sophisticated protection mechanism GameShield uses to protect your games when you choose to the IronWrapper option for them. IronWrapping™ essentially "wraps" a mini virtual operating system around your game (and optionally data) like a protective shield. This virtual system may optionally contain a pre-defined license model, logic and customizable user interface elements to allow the user to interact with the IronWrap system itself.

You may choose to IronWrap your applications without making a single change to your compiled code. In fact the source code is not even necessary. You may also choose a "Hybrid" approach to protecting your applications. In this approach, you use IronWrap, but also invoke the ClientProtector right inside your application to offer the ultimate in high-strength protection combined with the supreme flexibility of a rich (virtual) COM interface right into the IronWrapping system itself. IronWrap is the strongest DRM Kit available today.

What is Software License Enforcement?

License enforcement is the mechanism by which the GameShield components may enforce specific license terms between your organization (more specifically your game) and your customers (the users of the game).

A software license enforcement system is a DRM Kit that allows game developers and publishers to create, edit, compile, test, distribute, activate and support licensed software. For example, lets say you wish to create a "trial" version of your game, where a client can install and play the game for a limited time period, after which they must purchase the game from you or stop playing. Since DRM is not your development team’s primary focus, if you created your own mechanism to protect and enforce the trial, you run the risk of creating a weak implementation. Further - if you devise a "home-grown" solution, it is likely that that same solution will not meet all the requirements of a different license or application.

The GameShield software licensing system consists of several applications, tools, run-time components, server components and support systems to help you control and license your software.
